Reader Survey Results

Thanks to everyone who responded to my reader survey! The results were enlightening for me in many ways, and as promised, I’m sharing the results with you.

The questions and response data are as follows:

1. How did you discover me and my books?

It was not a surprise that more than half of you discovered my books through a promotion or giveaway. New authors have to get reader attention somehow, and that’s why I participate in promotions.

My hope is that now that you know about me, you’ll recommend my books to your family and friends and make “Recommendation” the largest piece of this pie. That’s always my favorite way of hearing about new-to-me authors.

2. How many of my books have you read?

I’ll be honest. It was a big hit to my ego that 34% of the people taking my survey haven’t read any of my books. Since Deciding Fate is perma-free and you got a free copy of Favorable Consquences for signing up for my newsletter, I figured those would be gimmies. My theory on that was obviously incorrect. After I thought it about it a while and remembered how many books I have on my Kindle that I haven’t read, this began to make a lot more sense. Still…please read my books and leave reviews! :)

My heart did love the fact that 21% of the readers who responded to this survey have read 8 or more. Thank you for that!

3. Which of my books is your favorite so far?

The Fate series is always what people tell me they love, and the data shows that to be true since 47% of the books mentioned below are part of the Fate series.

4. What other authors do you enjoy reading?

The answers to this question were very interesting. The big names that I expected to see were there. Janet Evanovich, Nora Roberts, and James Patterson are very popular, but we know this already.

What was surprising is how many author names were only mentioned once. That means there are a lot of us readers out there who aren’t afraid to read a new author. I know I’ve fallen in love with some unknown authors, and as one myself, it was gratifying to see.

Also, we are a group who has a very diverse reading list as you can see by some of these other authors, who were mentioned by a few readers: Amanda Quick, Christine Feehan, Jayne Anne Krentz, J.R. Ward, Julia Quinn, Lisa Kleypas, Liz Isaacson, and Patricia Cornwell.

5. Do you prefer a series or a standalone?

I asked this question because I always feel in the minority when this topic is discussed. I’m a huge fan of the standalone novel, which is why my first five books were written that way.

Turns out that it’s really about 50-50. It never feels like that when I’m having a discussion with someone in person. Maybe I just need to get out more or make new friends. :)

6. What do you like best about my newsletters?

When I sit down to write my newsletter, I’m always struck with dilemma of what type of content to include. Most of the emails I get from you readers in response to the personal part of my newsletter. I love those emails because it feels like I’m getting to know you, too, but it’s still strange to think that readers care about what’s going on in my personal life.

It turns out that you like the personal stories as much as me sharing what I’m working on. So that part of my newsletter will not change, although I’m always looking for something new and fun to share.

7. How often would you like to hear from me?

In this age of very full inboxes, I wanted to be sure that I’m sending my newsletter at the right interval for you. Monthly has always seemed like good timing, and it looks like most of you feel the same way.

I do occasionally send out quick emails when I have a new release or one of my books is part of a promotion. I will continue this as needed, but not overdue it.

If you’re one of those people who would like to hear from me more than monthly, just send me a shout out once and awhile to say hello. I’d love to hear from you anytime.
